Kurtis & Jordan Say I Do! #kurtisandjordansayido

This past Saturday I had the extreme privilege of attending Jordan & Kurtis’s wedding! I knew it was going to be a great wedding…I did not know i was going to burst into tears when I saw Kurtis! The wedding hadn’t even started yet! I don’t know if I’m just in a hyper emotional season of life or what, but it only got worse as the ceremony began. Jordan looked beautiful. Their pastor shared an amazing message about how Christ loved us while we were still sinners and we are called to that same sacrificial love. He talked about how one day Jesus will come back for His bride and how glorious that day will be. Tears, tears, and more tears!

I calmed down once the reception started. If you’ve never been to a Chi Alpha wedding- they are like part party/part serious conversations/part reunion/part sobfest. Ok only a sob fest for me. I sat at the best table (All the tables were named after significant/fun things for the couple. I was at the Party Playoff table- a legendary game.) I got to have a great conversation with Angela. I sang a little California Love, danced a bit, and got overwhelmed by all the people in the room. Morgan gave a great toast (tears again for me!), there were so many cute DIY details, and it was just plain fun. This wedding was a true testament of 2 great families raising 2 great kids and all coming together to celebrate the beginning of their new family.

Here are some photos of the night:

My new fav nail place!

A while ago, I heard there was a nail school in Mesa that had killer deals on nails. After some googling, I found out Nail Logic- The Institute of Nail Technology was really close to me! Unfortunately, their Yelp reviews make them sound like it totally sucked.

I mean- I love a good Cosmo school service. I’ve had good & bad experiences but I’m always a risk taker if it means saving some cash! (My fav place in Sacramento is Federico Beauty Institute– I had great luck there!)

Ok back to Nail Logic. I called to make an appointment and. it took FOR.EV.ER to get ahold of them on the phone. Maybe because I called when they first opened? When I finally go through, it was easy to make an appointment for a $15 gel manicure for that afternoon.

When I got there, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it actually looked semi cute! I tried to take a picture of the front desk, but I wasn’t crafty enough. Haha I did get a sneaky pic of the polish/glitter wall…

They checked me in and handed me a ring of a million gel polish colors!Yay! I love choices! I had to wait about 15 minutes past my appointment time. This would have been fine (because I hate being rushed picking colors!) but I had to endure listening to the woman at the front desk describe-in depth- the cockroach infestation of her house to another employee. Sick! I think she’s one of the instructors…and it just seemed unprofessional to me.

Anywayz, I had it narrowed down to 2 colors. When my nail tech came to get me, she helped my pick “Shake It Till You Samba”.

It’s hard to tell from the picture, but it’s a hot pink- almost neon. Alyssa, who did my nails, took me all the way to the back of the building so I could wash my hands and scrub my nails. Hey- what do you expect for $15?! Hah she was very nice, but it was clear she wanted to focus on painting my nails and not chit chat. I was ok with that- she did an AMAZING job. Seriously- it was the best gel mani I have ever had! She did a great hand massage with a lotion & scrub of my choosing (ginger lime, please!). I have VERY small nails, and usually nail techs have a difficult time painting them. Well Miss Alyssa was no phased and made them look great! Also, unlike other beauty school services, it took the same amount of time as a service in a salon.

When she walked me to the front, I had to get my nails checked by her instructor. (Different lady. Cockroach lady left for lunch or something.) She grabbed my hands and started PICKING WITH HER NAIL THAT HAD BEEN GOD-KNOWS-WHERE AT THE SKIN AROUND MY RING FINGER! I mean I appreciate attention to detail and the polish was a little bit on my skin, but this felt a little bit like an invasion. She had Alyssa redo one of my nails, I paid my $15 (plus tip!) and went on my way!

Look how cute they turned out!!!

Overall- would I do it again? Definitely! The place was clean, the students are well monitored, and you just can’t beat the price! I just hope next time there will be less picking and cockroach talk. 😉

High Five for Friday! #H54F

This was a pretty low key week. I’m settling into my job and figuring out some new rhythms. Here are my top 5 for the week!

1. Nail DiY I’m pretty proud of the way my nails came out! I watched Kandee Johnsons’s tutorial- a lot easier than you’d think!

2. Eye make up! With this new palette, I have also been trying new things courtesy of Kandee & other YouTubers and Pinteresters. Mostly what I’ve learned is that it’s alllllllll about blending.

3. Wireless keyboard This thing is SO fan and makes typing from my iPad so much easier! I typed this whole post with it.

4. Bday celebration. So fun. Delish brownie.

5. Enchiladaaaaas! Mag makes bomb enchiladas with green chile in the sauce. She even got me sour cream even though it makes her gag! It was so nice to see the sisters for one night…..before they both leave me!!

That’s all folks! Tomorrow is an XA wedding for the ages. I’ve already talked about how excited I am…..but it is seriously going to be so amazing. I can feel the tears coming already!!!!

[image via Hunted And Handmadeon Etsy. She has so many cute prints!]

Gold, arrows, golden arrows- definitely a theme of today’s links! What can I say? I love a good trend. Sue me.

I love this little compass ring! I saw this tutorial like 100 years ago and I bought the compasses from the dollar store and lost the compasses. Maybe it’s a sign.

These ideas are ALMOST enough to make me want a tattoo. ALMOST.

I love this idea for painted mugs from The Worley House. Plus I just love Andrea and her ADORABLEEE kids…so you should read her blog anyways.

Um my freaking roommate started a blog and I didn’t even know! Follow her amazing adventures leading a team of ladies across the ocean here!

Will someone please invite me to this party?!?

Bringing to a serious side, this campaign about gun control is really interesting & raises some great questions.

This necklace DIY is so cute but I’m not sure that I have the skills to make it look cute.

Anything you’ve been loving on the interwebs??!? Holler at me!!

GOOD EATS: Celebrating my birthday!

This past Saturday was my 20…something birthday. (I’m 26 ok….and I feel ancient. Judge away, it is what it is.) My sisters and I have wanted to try more restaurants in Arcadia so I did what any normal person would do- I googled “cool restaurants in Arcadia.” Hahahah The Vig came up, I checked out the menu and it looked like exactly what I was looking for! Even Maggie, the “burger and fries” sister, thought the menu looked good!

4.There’s nothing like satisfying a craving.
5. Best movie of all time.

This was a pretty boring week! Hahah The next few promise to be busier- my birthday, a big wedding, many celebrations, and lots of friends coming to town!

Happy 1st Birthday, Blog!

Today is my blogs first birthday! One year ago, I wrote my first post about how I was going to be my own niche. One year later, I have learned a whole heck a lot about blogging, what I like, what I don’t like, and much more.

One year ago, I was living in California with an amazing roommate and working for a great family. This past year I drove the farthest I’ve ever driven, made some yummy things, did some cute DIYs, and much more.

I have lots more rolling around in my head about what I can do to better utilize the blog for things I care about! (Like raising $$ for awesome missionaries…)

This has been a year of transition after transition. This blog has been there through it all. I can’t wait for year two! Thanks for coming along for the ride!

Caprese Pasta 2 Ways!

The eternal plight of a single girl trying to eat healthy is trying to decide how much produce to buy! I am always on the hunt for ways to utilize food in several ways. (Thus my dressing 2 ways too!)

I love the favors that come with Caprese! Basil&Tomatoes& fresh mozzarella! Yum! I found this recipe for a Caprese pasta salad. This sounded like a great thing to bring for lunch…but I wanted dinner too! (It should be noted that i ate this at 9:40pm. That’s dinner time, right?)SO- When the pasta was done cooking (I used whole wheat penne), I just took some of the hot pasta and put it into a bowl off to the side. I rinsed & cooled the rest of the pasta and put in a container for lunch tomorrow (and one for another day!).

I loved the way the mozzarella melted a little bit in the hot version. I sampled the cold version and it was just as yummy! This also partially solves the single girl grocery problem of eating the exact same thing a million times in a row. Variety is the spice of life, right?!

Do you have any good lunch ideas? What do you like to bring to eat on the go?! I’m always dying for ideas!!

Engaging Gray Areas

Sometimes, when big tragedies happen, or I hear about really sad things, I purposely don’t engage. I don’t change my Facebook photo. I don’t read about details. I don’t watch the news. It just seems so overwhelming to me. Like if I can’t be an integral part of a solution, I just can’t have anything to do with it. (The one time I did desperately pray for the end of human trafficking, it was one of the craziest spiritual experiences of my life.)

I’m learning that I’ve seen too many things in my life as black and white- I don’t like gray. It’s not concrete. It might not be enough. I may actually be held responsible for something if I engage at all. But, lots of the world is gray. Most of it is actually.

I can pray, I can hope, and I can leave the “solving” to God and the people He works through.

Here are a few pieces I’ve read on the Boston Tragedy that struck a chord. I thought I’d share them here.

Chef Katelyn– who had a long history of great memories with the Marathon.

These beautiful photos.

I love this idea of being a little kinder in our own sphere.

I’ve prayed for you Boston. Promise.

Jordan’s Bachelorette Par-Tay!

Last night, we celebrated Jordan’s Bachelorette Party! Don’t worry- this post won’t be filled with weird gentalia shaped straws or strippers- just good clean fun. (Let the record show- I did suggest a pole dancing class….no one else liked that idea. Haha.)

We started the night at Oregano’s and went BIG- pasta, pizookie, and pictures!

It was fun to meet some of Jordan’s friends that I didn’t know. If you don’t know Jordan, she’s amazing, smart and hilarious. Naturally, she attracts the same type of friends!

After dinner, we headed to ASU to play sardines.

I may or may not have cheated and hacked into my sisters Find My phone… YOLO- NO REGRETS! Hahah we happened upon the Filipino Student Association party, people looking for “Miller Ave,” and assorted other weirdos. It was really fun- I left before the end because I am an old lady who needs her sleep! Hahah

This event just made me more excited for Jordan and Kurtis’s big day. They are both just such special people and I know they are going to be even better together. I love the way they love each other and the people around them. I love that they are both creative and both are actually challenging to play trivia with. (I’m also selfishly excited to see all sorts of friends from out of town!)

So there you have it- my wild and crazy Saturday night!
